At the playhouse is a short game heavily inspired by a wonderful historical research project called Middling Culture: the cultural lives of the middling sort, writing and material culture, 1560-1660

How to play:

This is a text-based, light choose-your-own-adventure game. Bold blue text indicates a possible route - sometimes you will have to choose between two or more! Simply read and discover the different storylines. When you're done, I recommend playing again to discover different options!

All three named characters existed at different times between 1550 and 1650 in England. This game explores what a day in their lives might have been like, all centred around the setting of the playhouse. (Certain creative license has been taken, as these storylines are inspired by the real facts but do not necessarily stick to them.)

The game also features several artworks that illustrate different scenes! You can find them all here: https://artuk.org/discover/curations/at-the-playhouse-artworks-featured-in-the-g...

Note - play on your laptop!
